Meet Margaret

Margaret Fowler has played a vital role in expanding Meals on Wheels services to the rural Yuba Foothills, helping ensure older adults in remote communities have access to nutritious meals and supportive services.

As an active member of the foothill community, Margaret works with several local nonprofits focused on supporting older adults and families. Living in a rural area herself, she understands firsthand how challenging it can be for residents to access essential services and how important programs like Meals on Wheels are for helping older adults remain independent and connected.

Margaret’s involvement with Meals on Wheels began when she recognized that the program was not available in the foothill area. She advocated for the service and helped gather the volunteers needed to make the program possible. Because of her efforts, Meals on Wheels was able to expand and begin serving older adults in rural Yuba County.

When the program first launched in the foothills, Margaret personally delivered meals for several months while the service was being established and volunteers were organized. Today, she continues to serve as the rural backup driver and looks forward to filling in whenever needed.

Margaret says the most memorable part of delivering meals is seeing how appreciative people are, noting that sometimes a meal delivery may be the only visit someone receives that day. Even brief visits create meaningful connections and reinforce the importance of community, especially in rural areas.

Her advice to anyone considering volunteering is simple: “Do it. It only takes a couple of hours, but it makes a real difference in someone’s day.”

We are incredibly grateful for Margaret’s leadership, advocacy, and dedication to ensuring older adults in rural communities receive the support they need.
