Meet Bob

Bob Grunder has been a dedicated Meals on Wheels volunteer since April 2025 and has quickly become a valued member of our team. Always communicative, dependable, and ready to step in when needed, Bob consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the older adults on his route are well cared for. Whether it’s checking in on participants, offering to cover routes, or representing Meals on Wheels at local events and parades, Bob’s commitment to service shines through in everything he does.
Bob grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida, and served 24 years in the United States Air Force, with deployments around the world before retiring in 2001. He later continued his service through federal employment at Beale Air Force Base for 22 years, retiring in 2024. Today, he enjoys staying active through softball, bowling, and golf.
Bob credits his inspiration for volunteering to his mother, who cared for his father through many chronic illnesses and later volunteered at a local hospital after his passing. Following his retirement, Bob wanted to find a meaningful way to give back and was introduced to Meals on Wheels by fellow volunteer Shelley Davis while working together at the Yuba-Sutter Veterans Stand Down.
Since joining the program, Bob has delivered both fresh and frozen meal routes and has created many meaningful connections with the older adults he serves. He shares that it’s hard to pinpoint just one memorable moment, as many participants regularly express their gratitude. From heartfelt hugs to friendly visits with their pets, Bob says these small but meaningful interactions make the experience incredibly rewarding.
Bob also enjoys sharing his experience with others in the community and encouraging new volunteers to get involved. “People are usually very impressed and supportive when they hear about Meals on Wheels,” he says, often helping encourage others to consider volunteering.
We are grateful for Bob’s dedication, compassion, and willingness to serve. His commitment to supporting older adults in our community truly makes a difference, and we are honored to have him as part of the Meals on Wheels team.
